Participant Eligibility

Age-Requirement
Participants must be ages 2-18 years. Children under 4 must be able to stand and walk by themselves. Children under 18 must have a parent or guardian register on their behalf.

Residency/Location
Project Zero Drowning lessons are currently only offered to residents of Utah. For Missouri and/or Kansas residents please visit the Kansas City Swim Academy page.

Swim Education Level
All skill levels are welcome, but beginner levels will be prioritized. Lessons will be grouped based on age and ability for safety and effectiveness.

Medical Clearance
If your child has any medical conditions that may impact swim safety, please consult your healthcare provider before registering.

Overview
At Project Zero, our mission is to end childhood drowning through an accessible, free/affordable, and proven curriculum. Our approach emphasizes respect for the water while building comfort and confidence in aquatic environments for Utah children and teens.
Program Goals

- Foster Respect and Comfort in the Water
- Build Foundational and Lifesaving Skills
Skill Progression
Ages 2-5:
- One-on-one instruction focused on water comfort and survival basics.
- Key Milestone: Safely enter the water, surface, and float/tread on back unattended for 1 minute before finding an exit.
Ages 6-18:
- Small group lessons focusing on advanced survival and swimming skills.
- Key Milestone: Swim 25 yards unassisted and exit the water without using a ladder.
Age Cohorts & Instruction Ratio
- Ages 2-5: 1:1 Instruction (15-20 minute lessons)
- Ages 6-11: 1:5 Instruction (30 minute lessons)
- Ages 12-18: 1:10-12 Instruction (60 minute lessons)
Lesson Frequency
- Participants are encouraged to attend 2 sessions per week for optimal progress.
